“To A Man Who Died Running”

“To A Man Who Died Running”

South Carolina sun scorches red

like petals below Yellow Jessamine.

Sometimes a gunman fires

in the heat of the day.

Hot grass swallows the sound of fleeing sneakers.

A videographer in the bushes

must disappear into the scenery

like a lizard.

The wind echoes shots, gasps and exclamations.

Sometimes the day can be

as if it were viral.

    1. Thank you, Naima! I’m most appreciative! May Spirit bless us all, for we so deeply need it! The life taken was less than a wild animal who’d wandered into civilization! Perhaps it would have been treated with more dignity!
