“If We Could But…”

“If We Could But…”

Give up the need to judge
peeling away our fanned fronds,
we could
break blinders
encrusted with our perceived
inadequacies
born of fallacies
rooted in our unworthiness.
Truly we might discern
how perfectly imperfect
we are…

*

I feel
how deep our
scars,
our
insuperable propensity
to form
opinions
and
conclusions
sans
a thoughtful clarity.

*

Could we but
shun
the delusion
that proving him right
and her wrong,
we might be
less enmeshed
in gumtree
blues
yielding reasons for crime
etched across the
news.

*

If we could,
abort lust
dodge envy
shirk wrath
cancel greed
staunch sloth
conquer gluttony
and
challenge pride,
we might grasp
that who we are
right where we stand
is organically
divine.
